New Student Employee Orientation
At the beginning of each semester, all new student employees at the University of South Carolina are invited to participate in an orientation. This orientation helps new student employees create connections across the university, hear from university leadership, and learn about professional development opportunities available to them.
Registration is now open for Fall 2025 new student employee orientations:
- Monday, September 29th from 5:00 - 7:30pm
- Friday, October 3rd from 12:00 - 2:30pm

Student Employee Workshop Series
Student Employees are encouraged to participate in professional development throughout the semester. There are two kinds of student employee workshop series that are available:
Core Series: The core series workshops are offered each semester and cover some essential and foundational needs for professional success both now and post-graduateion.
Learn how to manage your time and stay on top of competing priorities. You will leave this workshop with actionable takeaways that will give you the tools to meet every deadline.
When: Tuesday, September 23rd from 5:00 - 6:00pm
Where: Russell House University Union Room 302
In this workshop we'll hear directly from a student with peer management experience. We'll dive into tools to foster leadership in others through mentorship and delegation; support team development and shared leadership practices; identify common scenarios where peer leadership dynamics arise and reflect on potential tensions or opportunities; apply strategies for giving feedback, setting boundaries, and navigating tough conversations with peers; and examine how leadership style influences group culture and peer perception.

Semester Spotlight Series: The semester spotlight series are seasonal workshops that rotate onto the schedule to give you additional, potentially niche, insight into other topics related to your personal and professionaldevelopment.
Recognize and respond to the emotional responses individuals may experience during transitions. Apply communication tools that foster trust, alignment, and motivation in times of ambiguity. Reflect on personal leadership styles and its impact on team dynamics. Develop a practical action plan for guiding a team through the phases of transition.

Conflict is stressful, and whether in your current role as a student employee or in a future position, you will experience some sort of conflict in the workplace. Through this workshop, you will learn practical techniques to communicate clearly under pressure via email, phone, or in person, all while maintaining professionalism.

This peer-led presentation will walk participants through identifying and managing imposter syndrome as a student and an emerging professional.

This workshop will be facilitated by Stacey Adams, Founders Federal Credit Union's Financial Education Manager. In this session, student employees can expect to learn about budgeting and how to maximize your money (tips and tricks about money, how you spend money, how to make it grow, etc.).

Join us for The Adulting Playbook, a fun, practical workshop designed to help you hone in on everyday challenges and skillsets of adult life. Whether you're about to graduate or just want to get ahead of the curve, this workshop is your crash-course in becoming real-world ready.

This workshop will discuss the key skills related to customer service and how these skills can be transferable to a variety of different workplaces, including in higher education. This session will also include group activities and scenario roleplay for hands-on practice.

It's never too early to start saving--and it doesn't have to be overwhelming. Where you're trying to build an emergency fund, stash away money for the future, or just want to understand how savings and investment accounts work, this workshop will break it down in a simple, practical way. This workshop will be facilitated by Founders Federal Credit Union, and students will learn about the different types of savings and investment accounts, how much and how to start saving for emergencies, tips for saving on a student budget, and the power of compound interest.
