LAWS 552 - Preparing for the Multistate Performance Test (MPT)

Course Description
This course will focus on the skills required to competently and timely complete the Multistate Performance Test on the Uniform Bar Examination, including: (1) sorting detailed factual materials and separating relevant from irrelevant facts; (2) analyzing statutory, case, and administrative materials for applicable principles of law; (3) applying the relevant law to the relevant facts in a manner likely to resolve a client’s problem; (4) identifying and resolving ethical dilemmas, when present; (5) communicating effectively in writing; and (6) completing a lawyering task within time constraints. Students will complete MPTs for scoring and individual feedback to increase their MPT proficiency.Notes: Students may not enroll in this course and Advanced Legal Analysis (LAWS 542).Students must be in their final two semesters of law school to take the course. For the majority of students, this will require them to be a 3L when they take the course. For December graduates, students may take the course in the Spring of their 2L year.Basis of Grade: This is a pass/fail course that will be graded based upon participation, attendance, and quality of work.Form of Grade: Pass/Fail
