RecFlix N’ Chill

Lights, camera, action! Kick off the semester with RecFlix N’ Chill, one of the most exciting events of Carolina Welcome. Hosted in collaboration with Gamecock Entertainment, this unforgettable evening is all about connecting, engaging, and unwinding. Explore our interactive resource and activities fair, enjoy a live DJ, and test your skills with fun challenges. Cap the night with a movie under the stars at the Wellness & Fitness Center's outdoor pool. Whether you’re a freshman, transfer student, or just looking to dive into campus life, this event has something for everyone. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this blockbuster experience!

USCream

Dare to be scared at USCream, our annual haunted house event at the Blatt PE Center! Step into the shadows and navigate your way through a bone-chilling haunted house filled with spine-tingling surprises and eerie encounters. Think you can make it through? The terror doesn’t stop there—survivors are invited to celebrate their bravery at the Survivor’s Party, featuring music, games, and plenty of treats (no tricks!). Whether you’re a fan of fright or just looking for a fun night out, USCream is the perfect way to get into the Halloween spirit. Gather your courage and join us… if you dare!

2025 Gamecock Polar Plunge

Why Plunge?

The Gamecock Polar Plunge is part of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run, and 100% of the funds raised directly benefit athlete programs in South Carolina.

By participating, you’re helping to create life-changing opportunities for 30,707 children and adults with intellectual disabilities to experience the joy and empowerment of Special Olympics – all at no cost to them or their families.

Minimum to Participate:
Raise at least $50 to join in the plunge!


Event Schedule

  • 4:00 PM – Registration
  • 5:00 PM – Costume Contest & Awards
  • 5:15 PM – The Plunge!

How to Register

  1. Sign Up Now: Register online to secure your spot.
  2. Raise Funds: A minimum of $50 is required to participate. Share your fundraising page with friends and family to support this amazing cause!
  3. Finalize Registration: All participants who raise the minimum amount will receive a confirmation email with event details and waivers to sign.

Costume Contest

Show off your creativity! Come dressed in your wackiest, funniest, or most inspiring outfit for a chance to win prizes during the Costume Contest at 5:00 PM.

Lifting Competition

Date: Saturday, March 1, 2025
Location: Blatt PE Center
Participant Cap: 50 (first come, first serve)

Welcome to the 2025 CREC Lifting Competition, an event designed to celebrate personal achievement, camaraderie, and the pursuit of strength. This challenge invites you to push your limits, support your fellow lifters, and strive for a place in the 500/1000 Pound Club.

Whether you're here to surpass your own expectations or cheer on others, this event is all about giving your best and embracing the journey


Important Dates to Remember

  • Registration Opens: January 6, 2025
  • Participant Confirmation Check-In: February 10, 2025
  • Competition Day: March 1, 2025

Event Structure

Participants will compete in three classic lifts: Squat, Bench Press, and Deadlift.

  • The challenge is to join the prestigious 500/1000 Pound Club by achieving a cumulative total of either 500 pounds or 1000 pounds across all three lifts.
  • Each participant will have three attempts per lift, with the highest successful lift counting toward their total.
  • For those aiming for the top, we’ll also recognize the Overall Pound-for-Pound Champion, awarded to the lifter with the highest weight lifted relative to their body weight.

Competition Rules Overview

Squat:

  • Must reach parallel (hip crease below knee).
  • Belts and knee sleeves allowed; wraps are not.

Bench Press:

  • Glutes must remain on the bench; feet flat on the ground.
  • The bar must touch the chest on the eccentric phase.
  • Wrist guards and elbow sleeves are permitted.

Deadlift:

  • Must lock out fully at the top.
  • Both conventional and sumo techniques are allowed.
  • Control the barbell throughout the lift.

Equipment Notes:

  • Chalk is prohibited; Liquid Chalk will be available for use. 
  • Belts and sleeves are allowed; wraps and power straps are not.

Awards and Recognition

We celebrate all participants' hard work and achievements! Awards include:

  • Pound-for-Pound Champion: Championship Belt for the lifter with the highest weight lifted relative to their body weight.
  • 500/1000 Pound Club Achievers: Participants who reach either milestone will receive special recognition and their official competition shirt to commemorate their achievement.
 

Weight Divisions

Their are no traditional weight divisions, this competition aims to focus is on personal achievement and showcasing your strength for a chance to be part of the 500/1000 Pound Club.

  • All participants will be weighed in at the start of the event. Your weight will factor into determining the Pound-for-Pound Champion, awarded to the lifter with the highest weight lifted relative to their body weight.

Important Note

Weight divisions are subject to change based on the number of participants in each category. This ensures the competition remains as fair and competitive as possible. Finalized divisions will be announced prior to the event.

  • Sign-Ups Open: January 6, 2025
  • Participation is first-come, first-served, capped at 50 participants.
  • Additional entries will be placed on a waitlist.

Registration Process
  1. Initial Sign-Up: The first 50 participants will receive a private link to complete their official registration.
  2. Finalize Registration:
    • Complete all required forms (including waivers).
    • Pay the entry fee to secure your spot.
  3. Important: Failure to complete the forms or pay the entry fee by the specified deadline will result in the loss of your slot.
    1. Any forfeited spots will be offered to participants on the waitlist.

Participant Confirmation Check-In

  • Confirmation Check-In Opens: February 10, 2025
  • Participants will receive an email with event details and instructions.
  • You’ll have 48 hours to respond to confirm your spot.
    • Important: Failure to respond may result in your spot being forfeited.
