Additional Peer Leader Opportunities

Returning/Senior Peer Leader Applications for the Fall 2027 semester will open on Monday, October 26, 2026 and close on Sunday, November 15, 2026.

Returning Peer Leaders: 

Returning peer leaders co-instruct UNIV 101 and can teach with their previous co-instructor or be matched with a different co-instructor. Students in this role must have completed one full semester as a new peer leader in UNIV 101. Returning peer leaders do not enroll in EDLP 520. This is a paid position.

Returning Peer Leader Duties 

  • Provide support to first-year students as they transition to the University of South Carolina.
  • Identify appropriate campus resources and opportunities that contribute to their educational experience.
  • Develop a connection with the Carolina community and establish a sense of belonging.
  • Articulate and apply appropriate behaviors inside and outside the classroom.
  • Be open and accessible to regular meetings and communication with teaching partner beginning the spring prior to service and extending throughout the semester of service.
  • Complete all required orientations and trainings.
  • Submit timesheets accurately and timely.

 

Senior Peer Leaders: 

Senior Peer Leaders support the University 101 Peer Leader Program by helping to train, develop, and support new peer leaders in their role in UNIV 101, as well as their growth and development as leaders. Senior Peer Leaders also co-instruct a section of EDLP 520. This is a paid position.

Senior Peer Leader Duties

  • Co-instruct EDLP 520 to provide ongoing support and development for peer leaders.
  • Meet weekly with their EDLP 520 teaching partner.
  • Attend bi-weekly meetings with the U101 Peer Leader team.
  • Hold office hours.
  • Help prepare U101 Peer Leaders by co-facilitating fall training.
  • Attend and participate in Alcohol Lesson Plan Training.
  • Support peer leader recruitment by helping with information sessions, application reviews, and interviews.
  • Support U101 Peer Leader Program recognition initiatives by planning and staffing tabling events, creating social media posts, and assisting with the end-of-year reception.
  • Complete assignments that fulfill Beyond the Classroom Matters™ requirements.
  • Submit timesheets accurately and timely.
