Portrait of Veronica Gonzalez, Research Assistant Professor.

Biography

Veronica Valencia Gonzalez's research centers on social justice, gender-based violence (GBV), and the enduring impacts of colonial legacies on Latinx populations. With a focus on intimate partner violence (IPV), victimization, colorism, and mental illness stigma, their interdisciplinary, qualitative, and community-engaged approach seeks to unpack the complex dynamics that sustain these issues. Veronica's work is informed by lived experiences, including growing up in rural agricultural communities and overcoming systemic barriers as a non-traditional student. Their research aims to develop culturally sensitive interventions that address the needs of marginalized communities.
