Designed for undergraduate and master’s students who have excelled in social work scholarship to form bonds and promote the profession’s values. The Kappa Psi chapter at the University of South Carolina received its charter in 2007 and is a great opportunity to be involved in the College of Social Work and receive recognition for your scholastic achievements. Membership requirements are a minimum of 15 completed credit hours in the Bachelor of Social Work upper division or Master of Social Work degree program with a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average. New members are inducted in the spring semester.

Encouraging fellowship and on-campus participation of undergraduate social work majors and minors. Members actively provide services in the university and community settings, facilitate educational and social events and participate in fundraising activities. Membership is open to any undergraduate student registered full-time or part-time at the  Columbia campus. Four officers — president, vice president, secretary and treasurer — are elected annually by the college’s student body and  form the association’s executive committee.

Open to any full-time or part-time MSW students, the SWSA promotes interest in social work and social work issues through associating with others with similar interests. The organization provides supplemental educational experiences for students, advocates for students in academic and administrative matters, and enhances social interaction among members. Four officers — president, vice president, secretary and treasurer — are elected annually by the college’s student body.

The Black Social Work Students Association of the University of South Carolina is a professional and social supportive organization, which aids the university in the retention and graduation of students of color.

The Black Social Work Student Association will sponsor events throughout the calendar year, which include academic and professional development seminars, community service, post-graduate information seminars, multicultural education and involvement with the Social Work Students Association.

The organization will hold monthly meetings and social activities will be planned throughout each semester.

The primary role is to administer the implementation of course, curriculum and college objectives for the BSW program. The committee recommends curriculum changes to the faculty and other changes to improve or enhance the program of study.

As a student on the advisory council, you will communicate with the dean on a regular basis about student concerns, help identify important current issues and aid in planning.

Advising and supporting the field programs. The committee includes one BSW and one MSW student who serve one-year terms.

Responsible for recruiting, screening and coordinating campus visits for candidates, convening and facilitating special faculty meetings to evaluate the candidates, and making recommendations to the dean. Membership may include one BSW and one MSW student.
