Be ready to teach high school English in just five years.

The Secondary Education concentration allows you to begin completing requirements for a Master of Teaching (M.T.) while earning the B.A., giving you the option to complete both degrees and be ready to teach in five years (or less with AP, IP, and/or dual credits). And whether or not you complete the M.T., the English degree provides a flexible toolkit for jobs in most any field.

What You’ll Study

This concentration provides in-depth coverage of cutting-edge topics for teaching high school English, from African American literature and women writers to the history of literary criticism. A cluster of five courses in education allows you to move directly from the BA to an accelerated one-year Master’s in Teaching program in the College of Education.
